About the Course

Course Description

The course starts by explaining why ensuring and maintaining the quality and safety of blood products is so important. After that, it looks at the necessity for multi-disciplinary collaboration when it comes to the transfusion of blood and how this looks in practice.

Next, it covers the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 and the legal requirements these regulations pose, before turning to explore safe transfusion practice, including how each blood product must be stored.

Following this, the course dives into the anatomy and physiology of blood products, before working through each stage of the blood transfusion cycle, and the standard safety checks required for the handling of blood products.

The course then turns to the most common and serious adverse clinical incidents related to blood transfusion and finishes by detailing the equipment required to administer a transfusion.
